The area of Tzoumerka is an area rich in history, great natural beauty and interesting villages and other attractions.

ATTRACTIONS BY DESTINATION

VOULGARELI

The Red Church of 1821, located in the village Paleochori of Voulgareli, known as Panagia Vella, a leading Tzoumerka Byzantine monument, which dates to the late 12th century and its name is probably from the red and black bricks that decorate the exterior walls of the monument. It is an exquisite specimen of art, it is a cross-shaped church with no dome on the type of ministry with diverse housing, and at the east it ends in three-sided apse.

The Monastery of St. George of 1974. During the Turkish occupation, it was a spiritual and religious center, home supply and support of the population throughout the region Tzoumerka. In the spring of 1821, the chieftains of Tzoumerka, of Rodovizio and Xiromero were gathered in the monastery, in order to coordinate the fight and declare a revolution in the region of Arta. Vourgareliotes also found the monastery as a shelter when the Germans bombed and burned their village in 1943.

Notable points of interest:

1. the stone arch bridges "Neradogefyro" in Voulgareli, located beneath the playground in place Bardis,

2. the bridge near the large fountain on the way to Athamanio,

3. the study of the library in Igglesio with rare books,

4. the taps in the village square called Archonto, Kroustallo and Leptokaria down the health center.

Participate in events:

1. Mountain Festival in June

2. Cultural events in 4 to 12 August in Voulgareli Square

3. At local festivals of the Prophet Elias on July 20 in Voulgareli and in the Red Church at 7 to 8 September in Paleochori.

ATHAMANIO

It worths to see the stone bridges "Tsagaraki," "Mega Langadi" and "Alevrochia".

Discover the traditions and the culture of the Tzoumerka in Athamanio to the local events such as:

1. Cultural events in 13 to 17 August in the village square.

2. At local festivals of the Assumption on 15 August, the Beheading of John the Baptist Head on August 29 and Agia Paraskevi on July 26 at Paleochori.

3. The Carnival and the Carnival koulouma.

Also Athamanio is an area which is offered for hunting for those who are interested (Raiders).

THEODORIANA

Points of interest is the Church of St. George, which belongs to the rhythm of the Royal, with 17 magnificent domes and a very high steeple with three bells. It was built in 1880 by workmen of Pramanta, while inside it is decorated with carved wooden iconostasis of 1918 from Metsovo artisans.

Furthermore, the Monastery of the Virgin Birth, which was built in 1973 and, since the Turkish occupation, it functioned as a school. During the occupation it turned into a den of patriots, but also a rough surgery and hospitalization. The monastery is decorated with the old wooden temple of St. George , a sample of wood carving art, with carved walnut wood.

Enjoy the beautiful landscape that surrounds the old water mill in the village, with huge trees and beside the river Goura to hum and the icy waters. The spectacle of the Acheloos gorge and the rich flora with broadleaved trees are a superb spectacle. 

Experience the culture and customs of Tzoumerka to the local events such as: 

1. the local feast of Assumption of the Virgin in the chapel, where the afternoon at 15 and 16 of August the local dance "Diplokangelo" is danced which has its roots in years of Turkish rule. The dancers take turns covering turns across the square, forming two rows in front the women and behind the men. 

2. The celebration of the ewe.

MESOUNTA

It worths to see the Stone Arch Bridge, declared as a preserved monument located in the stream "τροχός" or "Sοuda".

Visit the village «Myrofyllo" and see the monastery of St. George of 1618, decorated with rare paintings. 
Wander the beautiful village Myrofyllo and admire the magnificent mansions of the 17th and 18th century, which still survive.

Enjoy the rare pine forest, one of the largest and densest in the Balkans.

Learn the culture of Tzoumerka to the local events such as:

1. Events in memory of Aris Velouchiotis which are organized the closest Sunday to the date of his death (June 16, 1945) in Fango Mesountas.

2. The local three-day feast of the Assumption on August 15.

KYPSELI

The Karali Folk Museum with collection, which spans the last two centuries, is one of the points of interest. The material is more than 1800 items and includes pastoral and agricultural utensils for household use, weapons and costumes of the region, wood carvings, embroidery, coins, tools and various miscellaneous items of folk art.

The Annunciation Monastery, established in 1700 with magnificent frescoes in good condition.

The Church of St. Nicholas, built in 1904, located in the central village square.

The Church of San Marco and the Church of St. Cosmas Aitolos.

Wander to the two mills to the position Goura, which are declared as preserved monuments, as well as the church of Saint Panteleimon.

Experience the culture and customs of Tzoumerka to Kypseli: 

1. Cultural events in the 20 to 23 August, with exhibitions, concerts and theatrical performances. 

2. Come to a local feast of St. Cosmas Aitolos on August 24. 

3. Come to the carnival in the last weekend of the Carnival.

AGNANTA

It worths to see the water mill and nerotrivi to the Prophet Elijah and the Ascension.

Walk in the post-Byzantine monument in St. Revealed.

Experience the culture and customs of the Tzoumerka in Agnanta:

1. In celebration of "Tsipouro" in conjunction with the feast of the Holy Archangels, in the neighbourhood of Frastes on November 8.

2. In celebration of the village at 25 to 27 July, to the square of the Assumption, with a peak on the last day is the custom "Kagelari" a dancing happening dating from the 16th century during the Turkish occupation.

The fowling stand out:

* The villages Syrrako, Kallarytes and the nearby village Ktistades

* Monastery Kipinas (built on rock)

* The beautiful fir region (with many walking trails)

* River Arachthos, ideal for rafting and all the extreme sports.

Peripatetic excursions in Tzoumerka

Day 1:

Road from Ioannina to the ravine and Arachthos Syrrako. Syrrako is a traditional village with many stone fountains and old mills in the gorge of the tributary Arachthos Chrousia. Then towards Kalarites through the famous stairs of Kalarrytes and chapel of Panagia on top of bars (2160 m) and Katarahias (2280 m). Back to Kalarites for the night. (track 5 hours)

Day 2:

Kalarites, traditional village, the church of St. Nicholas and buildings that impress the visitor. Then towards Moni Kipinas built on slopes and in rock cave entrance (2 hours course). Moving from Kalarites - Matsouka village with stone bridges (3 course hours) - Back in the road where is Pramanta for the night.

Day 3:

Pramanta - Strongoula (2160 m) - Monastery of Agia Paraskevi - Melissourgoi - Pramanta Cave - Pramanta. Overnight. (path 7 hours)

Day 4:

Pramanta - Kataraktis - St. Catherine Monastery, visit the wondrous waterfalls. Overnight. (track 5 hours)

Day 5:

Kataraktis - Bridge of Plaka road - ravine Arachthos (optional kayaking) - return to Ioannina. (4 hours course)
